Back with new Space Marines

So, after my unplanned two and a half month long hiatus – due firstly because I was finishing my thesis, and secondly because I haven’t had internet for the past week – I’m finally back. I’ll try to get some photos of recent stuff I’ve finished done and uploaded, but no guarantees (since ANUCON2013 is coming up in a week and a half).

And there are new Space Marines.

So, I’ve seen the new book, and although I’m slightly underwhelmed (yay… a couple of new toys to go with the new kits and a much-needed revamp of Chapter Tactics) I think it’s generally a good codex. More of my two cents follows…

Victoria Miniatures: Female Troops Test Scupts (aka Luke has another ‘shut up and take my money’ moment)

So, the highly talented Victoria Lamb (her shop with her already released stuff is here) is scupting up some female trooper versions of her very nice multi-part troopers…

Female test scupts from Victoria Lamb (link to DakkaDakka thread)

Part of me is very glad that they’re not actually done yet, so I haven’t spent any money yet.

Another part of me is very impatiently waiting for them to be released.

Gah!

Gah!

Guess I better start saving up…

Photos from Flight of Truth (Istvann III Phase 2 Legendary Battle)

You shall not pass!

You shall not pass!

Here’s the second of four legendary battles which we played during our Istvann III campaign (however, I don’t have photos of the last one).

The second battle is “Flight of Truth”, with the loyalists (played by Rudi’s guardsmen) attempting to get one of three “voices of truth” to the shuttle and escape. It’s a 1000pt game on a 4×4 foot battlefield, with infantry only. The brave loyalist Imperial Army are faced by my own bi-polar Alpha Legion Terminators (who cunningly painted their armour so they don’t match any space marine legion, adding to the confusion – they ended up playing on both sides during the campaign).

On the Workbench: Napoleonics and More Napoleonics (and some random stuff too)

Stuff I'm Painting Right Now: Infinity Nomads

Stuff I’m Painting Right Now: Infinity Nomads

Here’s what I’m working on right now: trying to madly finish the last couple of miniatures for my Infinity Nomads. Above are two zonds (Nomad Remotes) – the front one has its black and red areas finished, whereas I’ve just done base-and-shade on the back one.

Why am I trying to finish the Nomads rather than continuing on with more Napoleonics?

Yeah, these guys are coming out. I had a “shut up and take my money” moment as soon as I saw them (dammit!).

Stuff that’s in the pipeline:

Much Belated Post: Progress!

So, I haven’t posted in over a month now – sorry about that, I’ve been doing some hobby stuff but a) I’ve been going through a series of rewrites and revisions for my PhD thesis and b) I haven’t been able to find any time while the weather’s been sunny enough to take decent photos (I use natural light, since I don’t have a propper lighting rig and my camera flash is atrocious).

Anyway, here’s the stuff I’ve completed over the past month:

I’ll post some workbench shots during this week so you can see what I’ve still got cooking (mostly, a whole bunch of Napoleonics). I’ll also get around to posting the last couple of galleries from the Istvann III Campaign as well…

A few more napoleonics made their way to me last week, with my order from Perry Miniatures arriving. I ordered two metal sets: BH18 British 95th Rifle command, for my rifle company, and BG30 British Light Infantry command advancing, to command the light company of my planned battalion.

I do belive that this will be the first *ever* picture taken of the BH30 British Light Infantry command advancing set from Perry Miniatures – I searched and searched prior to buying them to see if I could find one, but couldn’t. If I’m wrong, feel free to let me know!

So, here we go:

Model Trees from Christmas Trees

From this...

From this…

So I’ve been making model trees out of an old plastic christmas tree for my gaming club (the ANU Wargaming Society), and I think they’ve turned out quite well!

To this

To this

Since the plastic christmas tree was so old, most of the branches have been flattened so they’re nearly 2D (the bristles point in only two directions on some of them!). To hide this problem, instead of doing individual trees I’d done clumps of 4-5 on 60mm round bases (MDF, which I spraypainted green). The individual clumps can be used as scatter terrain or – as shown in the photos here – on larger bases to indicate area terrain.

Trees for the Tree God!

I think they do the trick, and look pretty good (bonus: they actually block LOS for true-line-of-sight games too!)

Bombshell Miniatures: Bombshell Babes Kickstarter

Maelee the Mechanic

Maelee the Mechanic

I caved to the kickstarter temptation last year with the Bombshell Babes Kickstarter, run by Bombshell Miniatures. Their kickstarter (now complete) was to produce models and moulds for a range of female miniatures, and since good female miniatures are relatively hard to find and their concept art looked good I took the plunge.

Well, the miniatures arrived last week – there was a bit of a hiccup as the reinforcement packs I ordered weren’t in the package, but a quick message has them on their way – and I’m very impressed by both the quality of the sculpting and the quality of the miniatures!

They’ll be releasing these for regular orders soon – keep an eye on their website for updates.

I (once the reinforcements arrive) will have gotten 27 metal miniatures, a bunch of resin base inserts, smaller metal sidekick models (I’ll show them later), and a couple of sprues of weapons, all for $182.

Here’s what I’ve received so far:

Photos from Cometh the Red Angel (Istvann III Phase 1 Legendary Battle)

The Arrival of Angron

The Arrival of Angron

Over the past month and a bit my local gaming club (the ANU Wargaming Society) has been playing the Istavann III campaign. So far, the results are mixed: Phase 1 the Traitors won handily, and Phase 2 the Loyalists won with a bit of a struggle. We’re halfway through Phase 3, where the Loyalists are currently ahead.

Some of us have been playing the Legendary Battles from the campaign, and we’ve been taking photos. Here are photos from the Phase 1 Legendary Battle, Cometh the Red Angel, with Rudi’s Imperial Army (Imperial Guard) versus Tom’s World Eaters Legion.

It was a bloodbath, but the later pictures will tell you exactly who won…

(Many thanks to Rudi and Tom for both taking photos of their game and letting me post them on my blog!)
