Sorry for the unplanned hiatus…

Terminator Librarian

Sorry everyone! A combination of *gasp* actually having motivation to write my PhD, Borderlands 2, SW:TOR, and a couple of other things mean that I’ve unfortunately neglected some other things – such as this blog – of late.

I’ll be putting up the much-delayed photos from ANUCON 2012 which ran nearly a month ago shortly. In the meantime, here’s the terminator librarian which I’ve finished to tide you all over.

I’m really proud of that axe

Hopefully, I’ll get around to taking some photos of the stuff I’ve done in the past month soon and I’ll be able to resume regular weekly updates.

Fingers crossed, but no promises!

Grey Knights Squad and Rhino

Not-So-Grey Knights

I finished updating these Grey Knights last week, and did their new rhino at the same time as well. The marines themselves were done ages ago, back before the days of washes and shades and glazes, so I updated them to give them a bit more depth and shading (the same way the Deathwatch were updated).

So, here’s some quick pictures for this weekend’s update:

Rhino-ing along

The rhino mirrors the Grey Knights scheme – black w/ grey highlights, shaded black to dull them down. White and red alternating corners to match the marines’ heraldry colours.

More Rhino

The icons are from the Stormraven Gunship. Everything got the black shade/wash to dull the colours down, similar to the effect on the marines:

Grey Knights

These are the old metal models, updated with the new plastic Grey Knight nemesis force swords (usually done by either handswaps or bladeswaps), and a deamonhammer for the justicar (which I know isn’t the best in-game choice – one perils of the warp and pop goes the hammer…).

The blue force swords are simly silver glazed with the new blue glaze – simple and effective.

4 Infinity Models Done!

Three Alguacils and a Securitae walk into a bar…

I’ve finished all three Alguacils for my Nomads Infinity force, so that’s four models down (and lots more to go…).

Just noticed that the two new Alguacils (the ones on the right) don’t have their facing and LOS markers on the base done, I’ll have to fix that!

Considering how long it took me to paint these four, I’ll probably still be at this project this time next year.

I guess at least it means I won’t have to buy new stuff to paint anytime soon!

Deathwatch Space Marine Army

Deathwatch Leaders

I’ve finally given these guys a touch up, and minus their final protective varnish coat I’m happy to call this army finished (finally!). These are my deathwatch space marines – played using the Space Marine codex, the army consists of:

  • Pedro Kantor
  • Librarian
  • 25 Sternguard (2×10 with meltagun, heavy flamer, powerfist, 1×5 with 2 heavy bolters)
  • 2×5 Scouts with sniper rifles and missile launcher (obligatory troops choices, as Inquisitorial troops)
  • 5 Scout bikers (as more Inquisitorial troops)

I’ve included a gallery of the entire army (generally front/side shots of everything), but here’s some comments as well:

Second Infinity Model and a Mystery Project

Infinity Nomads Securitae done!

Hi everyone!

Sorry for not posting last weekend – I’ve been hectic with finishing a paper for the past two weeks. I’ve done a little bit of painting since the last time I posted – I’ve (finally) finished my second Infinity model (lots more to go though!).

Plus, parts for a mystery project have just arrived as well…

Miniatures for Exalted: Kai the Dawn Caste Solar

Big man with a big sword

Except for this guy, I haven’t done much other painting and modelling this week (I put together a few commissars I bought of Ebay as well). I literally just painted his base, hence why it’s still a bit wet in the photos, and I haven’t given him a varnish coat yet.

Regardless, this miniature is for my friend’s character in the Exalted campaign I’m currently playing in – he’s been using a rather weedy fighter miniature which doesn’t really suit his big and tough Dawn Caste character, so I bought the bits off ebay to build him a new one.

Cloak and Sword

The miniature is a Warhammer Fantasy Chaos warrior, with an empire militia head (one of my favourite heads ever) and a sword blade taken from a Chaos knight lance. I removed his second hand weapon from his left hand and left it empty.

The paint scheme is gold, roughly highlighted and washed with a light brown, mid and dark browns for leather and the cloak respectively, again roughly highlighted and washed with dark brown, and his hair and the cloak fur are black drybrushed through brown to white and then black washed.

On the Workbench: Bucketloads of Terrain (oh, and some miniatures too)

So, hopefully Dreamhost holds together long enough for me to both upload all these images, and for you to see them… Gah.

Anyway, on to progress! I’ve actually done quite a bit over the last few weeks, mostly refurbishing a solid chunck of my terrain collection – edge highlighting and adding some extra details (most notably, printed posters to add some colour to the endless sea of grey).

This will just be a quick picture-dump post, since the light’s not good at the moment (I still don’t have a good daylight bulb for photoing, so I’m reliant upon natural light which sadly is somewhat lacking right now) – once I get another nice weekend I’ll finish varnishing these and take some proper photos.

Above are some pipes and cardboard constructions – those statues are old 2nd ed plastic space maries, the pipes are cardboard tubes and plumbing fittings, and that’s a PSU fan on the left next to the statues.

Lots of boxes and some cans

I’ve finished painted up the many many old PSU cases I’ve aquired, so now I have 8 box-buildings. I’ve stuck some posters on them (there’s a lot more on the other sides) to give them some interest and break up the giant flat grey surfaces.

Likewise, I have some cans of various sizes on the right, along with spray-paint lids on the top.

More in progress

And finally, here’s a IMEX Platformer building (I found a kit in Mind Games Canberra, but there’s a bunch of other places which stock them also) which I put together – I used some parts on the dropship I built, but the rest I really didn’t have a clue what to use them on, so I whacked together this building which I’ll probably donate to my local gaming club once it’s painted. Behind that are two crates built from balsa wood over a little cardboard box, and to the side are some magetised ladders which I’ll use on the (conveniently metal) PSU and tin-can buildings previously.

Tanks are done!

I’ve finished up the last five Leman Russes (or, should I say, “last” five) which I’ve had sitting around for ages, so I’ve finished all my tanks now! Except for the space marine Rhino I bought off a friend for my squad of grey knights… Hrm.

I’m glad there aren’t infinitely many of them

And finally, all of my Infinity models which I have to paint now. Considering it took me two weeks to paint the first one, this may prove problematic. At least they’re a pleasure to paint though!

Proper update next weekend – hopefully there’s good weather so I can get some proper photos!

Terrain: Highlighting the Warhammer Fantasy Village

So I gave up and went and highlighted all the buildings I built for my local club, and I have to admit that yes, they do look much better now.

Some bigger pics:

I’m putting together a few more terrain pieces (some aquarium plant trees and some PSU box sci-fi buildings), but I haven’t done any actual miniatures modeling or painting recently…

I’ll update again soon – I’m having my first game of Warhammer 40k 6th Ed tomorrow night so I’ll probably post up during the week with an update.
