Infinity: “May” releases

From infinitythegame.com

New releases are up on the Infinity forums for this month. I say “May” releases as these won’t actually be released until next month sometime, but they still apparently count as the May release this year.

The main reason I’m posting this (okay, so I wanted to have a mid-week post as well) is because there’s a new Nomads Daktari model, which is very nice.

From infinitythegame.com

But, it’s slightly annoying, because I’m already halfway through painting my Securitate model as a replacement Daktari (since I’m not a particular fan of the cat-girl model). Grr!

I’m not so fussed about the Nomads support pack, since I never intended to use the Clockmakers model (I’m not a fan of the giant baggy pants).

Oh well. One more Infinity model to buy when it comes out I guess!

In Progress: Painting Infinity with new GW paints

A start on Infinity

I’ve done some progress on my Infinity minatures in the last week – base colours on my test Alguacile, test yellow on my Morlocks, and the white and a few base colours on my Securitae/Daktari.

I’m using the new GW paints so I don’t have to worry about running out mid-project, so this is sort of a review of the new GW paints as well.

So, here we go on my progress:

GW: Summer of Flyers Pictures

From Bell of Lost Souls Lounge:

From Bell of Lost Souls: Space Marine Stormtalon

So we have the Space Marine Stormtalon (looks even more like a flying guppy to me than the Stormraven did, and I agree with comments that it looks like a GI Joe toy), the Ork Blitza-Bommer/Burna-Bommer/Dakkajet which looks awesome, and the Necron Doomscythe/Nightscythe which also looks awesome (and looks like a necron-styled 2003 Battlestar Galactica Cylon raider to me, which isn’t a bad thing because I love that show).

I guess 2 out of three isn’t bad.

What’s with those landing gear on the chin turret for the Stormtalon anyway? And does anyone else thing that “Stormtalon” sounds rather awkward?

On the Workbench: More Amera Plastics, Dystopian Wars Large Flyers

More Plastic Trenches

Since I liked the Amera Plastics I bought before so much, I bought some more! Two more T-junction trench sections from Combat Company later, I now have enough trench sections to span a 6 foot table. All for $40, which is a bargain IMO. I obviously haven’t gotten around to painting the extras yet.

Flying into the sunset...?

Also, I finally put together and undercoated the two skyfortresses for my Britannian and Antarctican Dystopian Wars fleets, so I’ve nearly finished those armies as well. Except that the small flyers just came out, alongside the passenger liner for Britannians. Hrm.

Anyway, that’s my workbench at the moment. I’m (slowly) working on the Infinity models, so I’ll hopefully have some progress to post about on the weekend!

Infinity with Micro Art Studios Bases

Nomads Starter Box (scan of mine)

So with the recent start-up of Infinity at the ANU Wargaming Society, I’ve splurged a bit and bought a bunch of the models from Combat Company.

I’m starting up Nomads, the space-roaming anti-AI anti-macroeconomic-empire faction which lives on three gigantic spaceships. Mostly because a) I like their fluff b) I like most of their models and c) it was one of the factions no one else had picked yet.

Lazy Luke Paints: Dystopian Wars Kingdom of Britannia

Battleship

After being promised for a while (and these photos are months old as well, which shows just how lazy I’ve been), I finally present the Lazy Luke method of painting Dystopian Wars Kindom of Britannia ships. I picked a scheme I found on the old Spartan Games forums – which means I can’t find it anymore and therefore means I can’t link to it – which in turn was inspired by the Nelson Chequer paint scheme.

Since the GW paint range has now changed, the colours I describe will be the old ones – but you can find rough equivalents on the GW website here. I won’t translate the names myself, since apparently some of the colours are quite different, and I haven’t had a chance to test them all out (I still have enough old paint that I won’t be switching over for my Dystopian Wars models).

Anyway, on with the steps!

Yes, I finally finished some stuff!

Advising all the time

A quick weekend post for stuff I’ve finished recently – first up the Imperial Guard advisors. Primary colours and black wash to make them fit in with my Valhallans, not really much special about these (but they’re very very nice models, lots of little details to pick out!)

Britannians

From back to front: I’ve finished the Kingdom of Britannia medium flyers (there’s 4, I only included 2 in the picture), gunships (very nice models! I love the rear torpedo turret), and corvettes (there’s 6, included 3). They’re done the same way as the rest of the KoB fleet – the guide I would link to, except I apparently haven’t posted it up yet! Hrm.

From the icy wastes of Antarctica...

Finally, here are the Covenant of Antarctica which I’ve finished: The two naval callimachus orbs, the three gunships (162 ball turrets total!), and corvettes (again, 6 total, 3 pictured). These I can link to the painting guide for, although I’m not sure how well the new GW paint range will translate (I’m glad I have enough old paints to finish these guys off, since if the new blue wash is even slightly different you’ll be able to tell).

I’ve only managed to make a minimum of inroads into the pile of stuff on my workbench from last week, so there probably won’t be a midweek post this coming week. I’ll post up something (probably the Kingdom of Britannia painting guide if I haven’t done anything else) next weekend.

New GW Paints (again): Textures and Drybrush

Previously on Luke's Short Gaming Blog...

A couple of weeks ago right after the new GW paints came out I did a quick “review” of a few of them. I’ve since also tried out the drybrush paint on the textured bases I did, the results of which you can see here:

Brushed

The Dry drybrush paints actually work very well – no need to waste lots of paint on a tissue or paper towel, dab your brush into the (very very thick paint), quick wipe to get rid of the excess (if you weren’t very careful with step 1), then off you go! I had a few false starts since I didn’t wipe and therefore got a bit too much paint on some bases in places, but overall the Dry paint looks like it does exactly what it should – be a great drybrush paint without much wastage at all.

I still haven’t tried the layer paints – I probably won’t have a chance to until I start my proper Infinity forces (where I’ll be actually spending time on each individual model and am going to give proper layering and highlighting and maybe even blending a go!), but the rest of the new GW paint line seems like a winner.

Apart from if you’re in the middle of a project and are annoyed that you can’t get that exact same colour now, of course. That always sucks.

Overall

Dry: Thumbs up from me!
