Sorry for the unplanned hiatus…

Terminator Librarian

Sorry everyone! A combination of *gasp* actually having motivation to write my PhD, Borderlands 2, SW:TOR, and a couple of other things mean that I’ve unfortunately neglected some other things – such as this blog – of late.

I’ll be putting up the much-delayed photos from ANUCON 2012 which ran nearly a month ago shortly. In the meantime, here’s the terminator librarian which I’ve finished to tide you all over.

I’m really proud of that axe

Hopefully, I’ll get around to taking some photos of the stuff I’ve done in the past month soon and I’ll be able to resume regular weekly updates.

Fingers crossed, but no promises!

So, about those updates…

… yeah, I’ve been bad with them.

I’ve done a bit of painting and modeling recently – a bit of terrain and some infinity models – but I haven’t had time or the inclination to take photos and post them up.

Mainly because ANUCON2012 is coming up next weekend, so I’ve been busy preparing for running it. Marking army lists, checking the shopping list for the included BBQ, organising the setup night, and getting all the spreadsheets and forms ready to go. Busy busy busy!

Anyway, I promise to make it up to all of you – after next weekend, I’ll have plenty of photos to post up of the tournament and the many varied armies which will be attending! So, no post for next weekend either, but I’ll have a massive gallery of photos to post up mid-week after that.

See you after next weekend!

ANUCON2012 Trophies!

Trophies x3

So, that mystery project that I never really posted about after I showed all the parts? Yeah, they’re trophies for ANUCON2012!

The tournament is less than three weeks away (on the 13-14 of October), and I’ve received 25 registrations so far – 4 more, and this year’s ANUCON will be the biggest ever. (yay!)

Blatant advertising that is a bit pointless since I’m fairly sure most people who read my blog are my friends who already know about the tournament:

Player’s pack:

Date: 13-14th October 2012, 8:30am to 5:30pm each day
Venue: Moran G007/8/9/10, Building 26, ANU, Canberra
Details: 1500pt Warhammer 40k, 3 rounds per day, BBQ lunch included both days
Cost: $40 ($35 for early payments received by Sunday 30th September)

With three weeks to go, I’m confident I’ll get at least a few more people to make it the biggest ANUCON held so far.

In more normal news, sorry for the lack of post over the last week – finding out at the last minute that I was needed to tutor a week-long intensive course means that what little free time I had was spent sleeping. Gah.

Second Infinity Model and a Mystery Project

Infinity Nomads Securitae done!

Hi everyone!

Sorry for not posting last weekend – I’ve been hectic with finishing a paper for the past two weeks. I’ve done a little bit of painting since the last time I posted – I’ve (finally) finished my second Infinity model (lots more to go though!).

Plus, parts for a mystery project have just arrived as well…

On the Workbench: Bucketloads of Terrain (oh, and some miniatures too)

So, hopefully Dreamhost holds together long enough for me to both upload all these images, and for you to see them… Gah.

Anyway, on to progress! I’ve actually done quite a bit over the last few weeks, mostly refurbishing a solid chunck of my terrain collection – edge highlighting and adding some extra details (most notably, printed posters to add some colour to the endless sea of grey).

This will just be a quick picture-dump post, since the light’s not good at the moment (I still don’t have a good daylight bulb for photoing, so I’m reliant upon natural light which sadly is somewhat lacking right now) – once I get another nice weekend I’ll finish varnishing these and take some proper photos.

Above are some pipes and cardboard constructions – those statues are old 2nd ed plastic space maries, the pipes are cardboard tubes and plumbing fittings, and that’s a PSU fan on the left next to the statues.

Lots of boxes and some cans

I’ve finished painted up the many many old PSU cases I’ve aquired, so now I have 8 box-buildings. I’ve stuck some posters on them (there’s a lot more on the other sides) to give them some interest and break up the giant flat grey surfaces.

Likewise, I have some cans of various sizes on the right, along with spray-paint lids on the top.

More in progress

And finally, here’s a IMEX Platformer building (I found a kit in Mind Games Canberra, but there’s a bunch of other places which stock them also) which I put together – I used some parts on the dropship I built, but the rest I really didn’t have a clue what to use them on, so I whacked together this building which I’ll probably donate to my local gaming club once it’s painted. Behind that are two crates built from balsa wood over a little cardboard box, and to the side are some magetised ladders which I’ll use on the (conveniently metal) PSU and tin-can buildings previously.

Tanks are done!

I’ve finished up the last five Leman Russes (or, should I say, “last” five) which I’ve had sitting around for ages, so I’ve finished all my tanks now! Except for the space marine Rhino I bought off a friend for my squad of grey knights… Hrm.

I’m glad there aren’t infinitely many of them

And finally, all of my Infinity models which I have to paint now. Considering it took me two weeks to paint the first one, this may prove problematic. At least they’re a pleasure to paint though!

Proper update next weekend – hopefully there’s good weather so I can get some proper photos!

Update: Dreamhost still being rather slow

Hey all,

Just to keep everyone updated – everything *should* be fixed now, but since Dreamhost is restoring backups to the server there might be intermittent response time issues.

The wordpress admin back-end panel has been very slow to refresh at times, so I’ve given up updating the blog for now – I’ll try again during the week and hopefully update soon.

Dreamhost Whoops

Dreamhost rolled double 1s

So Dreamhost rolled double 1s last night and my server broke. Sorry to anyone who had issues accessing the blog over the past day – they’re still working on fixing it (it seems to be working now, but no guarantees it won’t break again), and a bunch of my pictures went missing as a result since they weren’t in the latest backup.

Update: All pictures should be re-uploaded now, let me know if anything’s still broken or missing please!

Incoming! Warhammer 40k: 6th Edition

So unless you’ve been living under a rock for a while, if you play 40k you’ve probably seen that 6th ed is right around the corner.

Many changes abound – whether they’ll be good or bad overall remains to be seen (at first glance, it looks like it’s going to be infantry-and-flyer-hammer rather than 5th ed’s tank-hammer) – but I’ll reserve judgement after I actually see the rules and have a few games (although not being much of a gamer in general, as long as the rules aren’t broken I’ll be fine, I just need a bit of an adjustment period to get used to the changes).

However, there is one thing I’ll comment on right now.

The new rulebook costs $124 in Australia

Okay, seriously GW? $124 for, okay, an admittedly large hardcover tome, but really?

That much gets me two starter armies for Infinity, Dystopian Wars, Warmachine, or any number of smaller miniature games.

I’ll buy your book GW – admittedly not at RRP since what kind of schmuck does so in oz nowadays when places like thecombatcompany exist – but frankly, paying that much for the new ruleset pisses me off, and makes me glad that I’ve stopped buying new GW models or armies and have moved on to more reasonable manufacturers (hence, Dystopian Wars and now Infinity).

I think my friend’s got the right idea – he’s building a Warhammer Fantasy Dogs of War/Empire army from historial miniatures, which look just as good (or even better, since they’re not big-hand-feet-head heroic scale) and are much cheaper.

I’d be less annoyed at the price (of both the rulebook and GW miniatures nowadays) if they actually had a reasonable release and update schedule.

Sorry for the lack of posts recently…

Sorry for the lack of posts over the last few weeks – I’ve been busy with work and helping out with ANUWTF (the ANU Wargaming Society’s Autumn Warhammer Fantasy tournament), so I haven’t really had a chance to photo and post up the Dystopian Wars stuff which I’ve recently finished. I’ll get that done over the weekend, so back to semi-regular posts in the next few days, I promise (really this time!).

I haven’t actually been gaming that much recently except for the RPGs (Exalted, Dark Heresy, and now running one-off Paranoia sessions as well). I guess it’s the escape-tion-ism (or whatever you’re supposed to call it), taking me away from my stressful thesis writing. So, rather than gaming on Sundays I’ve mostly been chatting or painting (or sometimes board gaming) instead, which on the plus side now means my “to paint” box is down to 5 leman russ tanks, a bunch of BFG escorts, and four Dystopian Wars flyers.

I guess that means I can start buying new stuff again soon! 😀
